Impact of Gaming

Playing games on a computer, video game console or handheld device is a daily activity part of human culture.  It’s an interesting and unique form of human interaction with the development of a person’s thought.  Initially, gaming was introduced to the public as a source of entertainment as well as keeping children busy.  As digital distribution continues to grow, the market for video games expanded.  Throughout the years, Its dominated factors has lead to both negative and positive influences. 

Gaming has become a common topic for decades.  It has been passed down generations, from parents on to their children as they shared a love and passion within it.  Before electronics was developed, “tic-tac-toe” was a popular form of gaming.  This particular game was used as an “optimal strategy,” according the article “A Theory of Fun for Game Design.”  Its academic process is designed to increase children’s brains in terms of “complexity theory.”  Games including Gomoku, and Qubic were also used as teaching tools for our children.   Their main objective of the game helps children improve their intelligence as well as analyze mathematics.  Since the rise of technology, video games have becoming more accessible.  The release of computers, smart phones and tablets has all been driven factors for people to connect with gaming.  However, the new role of video games may allow children to behave differently from their normal persona.  Children who play violent video games, intend to develop aggressive behavior due to the repeated violent images found within its story medium.  Gaming also appears to form an addiction issue.  The constant use takes away human connections.  Children will place themselves in front of the TV or handheld device and cast out themselves out from real life experiences, family and friends.  These actions results to poor socialization skills.  From console gaming to handheld gaming, its mainstream form of entertainment will continue to have an effect on modern culture.

There are many conflicting thoughts and benefits regarding the topic of video games.  The effect of video games, negative or positive relies on how the content is accepted.  With the proper guidance, video games can more over benefit society rather than direct them in the wrong direction.  Its content can be used as an academic process which will improve their train of thought.  We are in full control as well as how we respond to its content.
