I think social media is a great tool. It just has to be used with caution. If there are aspects of your life you don’t want your employer knowing, then it is safe to say you shouldn’t post it. This is the message that the article “The Web Means the End of Forgetting” was trying to convey. Even after we die our profiles will still exist, so we should be mindful of how others perceive and remember us.
I never noticed that Facebook limits personal representation. Facebook provides only a few options of how we can identify ourselves. What about someone who does not identify themselves according to gender? It would be better if there was a more diverse group of software developers, so that there could be a broader view of identity instead of a narrow one.
