After reading these two articles, I’m neutral of the idea of television going away. Even with Apple TV, I still do not believe that television will go extinct. Due to the fact that apps have internal errors themselves, Television and Cable can survive but it won’t survive long. I also believe that 3-dimensional movies are not really creating 2-dimensional films because it depends on the genre that the movie is about. 3-D effects have in fact taken over the movie scene especially with the trailers, logo animations and animated text.
The first article The Future of TV Isn’t Apps. We Need All Our Channels in One Place” by Gary Myer speaks about how television should not be cancelled and should just be stored into one place. Apps are gradually taking over the planet and the only thing really keeping television alive is sports and news. Music videos are now produced online and cable TV just has a lot of repeats of certain TV episodes. Myer also mentioned about the 3 W’s of any viewer. What they want, when they want, wherever they want. Casual viewers do not like to go the extra mile and take extra steps. They also do not like to pay additional fees to watch certain programming. Casual viewers just want something that takes a maximum of 3 steps, one place or site to pay their fees and all the up-to-date content that they are paying their hard earned money for.
The second article The Future Of TV Is Here. Can Cable Survive? the new face of television programming. The author talks about how Netflix is the new holy grail to watch new and an archive of TV shows. it also talks about Hulu Plus which I don’t like very much. Lastly, HBO Go which is a new source to watch movies and TV shows produced by HBO without having to pay for a cable subscription. I did not really read this second as much as I did the first one because I believe Cable TV will stick around. The prime word of TV is ‘TELE”vision because is visual that is being told to the viewer. Now to renovate television to app-based programming just defeats the purpose of television in general.
